Wellness Success: Bill’s New Way
Imagine that your survival relies on daily insulin, Humalog, and Lantus doses, plus four blood pressure medications, and a prescription to control cholesterol levels. Each day is a struggle of balancing food, health, work, life, stress, and knowing that your medications are just barely holding things together for you. That’s survival, but that’s not the way Bill of Loveland wanted to live his life.
With the help of the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center’s My New Weigh program, Bill found his new way to thrive.
With the guidance of registered dietitian Lauren Ott, Bill worked his way through the 24-week group program to achieve life-changing results. Not only did he lose weight throughout the process, but his health and quality of life have been measurably improved.
Bill agreed to share his success by the numbers:
Total pounds lost: 73.2
BMI reduced from 39.41 to 29.4
Pulse Oxygen levels increased from low 90s to a consistent 97%
In addition to those statistics, Bill has can now control his glucose without the three daily insulin injections he had been on previously and avoided oral diabetes medications. He also dropped from four blood pressure medications to two. His prescription for Lovasa, an omega 3 supplement, was also removed from his regimen due to a significant improvement in his cholesterol.
“Bill was a pleasure to have in class. His successes seem to increase each and every week, not just physically, but mentally as well. Bill is the type of person that makes what I do so fulfilling.”
Lauren Ott, RD
