Every weight loss journey is unique, and My New Weigh (MNW), a program backed by science, is one of Anschutz Health and Wellness Center’s weight loss programs designed for participants who have a weight-related health issue or a BMI of 27.
We’ve seen many, many success stories through this program, but don’t just take our word for it! Billy Wood, a recent participant, shares his experience and successes in his wellness journey.
Why did you choose My New Weigh for your wellness goals?
I found myself weighing 280 pounds after many years of working too hard and neglecting my body. We sold our company in December, and I promised myself and my family that I would invest the time, money, and effort to lose at least 90 pounds.
My wife researched numerous programs and facilities throughout the US. I was about to enroll in the Cooper Institute program in Dallas when my wife found My New Weigh at CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) right here in Denver!
We decided that it was not only more cost-effective, but I could also invest the time in my weight loss goals from my own home and not have to be away for 1 to 2 months, then readjust when I came back home.
All of my doctors are in the CU health system as well, so I was comfortable with my medical records and history staying on one campus. I very much liked that my general practitioner doctor could watch my progress as well.
What successes have you achieved in this program?
After about one month, I lost 30 pounds. My severe sciatica pain has been reduced about ½ with the hopes of ultimately going away. I have more energy, and I am sleeping through the night with less snoring! The further I go, the more motivation I have to lose all 90 pounds.
Are you including fitness into your weight loss goals?
Yes! I work with a personal trainer at AHWC to keep myself accountable.
What do you like about working with a trainer?
My trainer is fantastic. He is very astute in the science behind physical fitness, as he was formally trained in this field with top-notch credentials.
He is very in tune with my specific issues, such as my sciatica problems, so he focuses on strengthening my core and particular muscle groups in my lower back region. I have already seen a 50 percent improvement in the pain levels in the back of my legs!
What are your wellness goals in the future, and how can we continue to help you achieve them?
I want to weigh 190 pounds, not develop diabetes or other serious medical problems, look/feel better, and have more energy.
Everybody that is helping me through my journey has been a pleasure to work with, which has made the experience insightful and enjoyable.
I am already recommending/referring many people to this program because it works!
