The Benefits of Consistent Bodywork

Life has changed. Bodywork can help combat the toll of daily life.

You may have heard that getting bodywork is beneficial. It can decrease stress levels, increase circulation, help improve posture, decrease chronic and acute pain, improve the tone and quality of muscle tissue, help strengthen the body’s immune system, and much, much more. Bodywork and massage used to be treated like an amenity. We used it as a way of pampering ourselves once or twice a year. But our way of living has changed drastically in the last 5-10 years. Americans sit an average of 11 hours a day. We work stressful jobs, we hunch over our computers, we sleep terribly, have a less than ideal diet, and we think that 2-3 hours of exercise a week plus a massage thrown in there once a year is going to reverse all the damage! Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.

Consistency is key.

Just like anything in life, real results are achieved with hard work and consistency. Personal trainers or nutritionists will remind you not to expect to lose 20 pounds in a week. Losing weight takes time, balance, dedication, and here’s that word again, consistency. You didn’t gain that weight in one week, and you won’t to lose it in a week either. Bodywork is no different. Those “knots” you feel in your shoulders and neck have been developing over months, even years. That low back pain you’re getting every time you stand up or bend over? It’s most likely from a compromised structure due to imbalances that you developed years ago from an old injury. Whatever the case may be, one 50-minute bodywork session is not a miracle solution. Every “body” tells a story, and that story takes time to tell!

So, what does consistent bodywork look like, and why do we ALL need it?

Consistent bodywork means getting a 50-80-minute session, at least once or twice per month, if not more. Clients who get regular massage see faster results that last longer. How many times have you walked out of a massage session feeling great, only to wake up a week later with the exact same pain as before? With consistent massage, you and your therapist will discover and treat the root cause of that pain and dysfunction to provide a long-term solution!

Whether you have an aching neck and back from sitting at a desk 24/7, pain from training for that next half marathon, pain from an old, nagging injury, or you’re a gym rat looking to go a little deeper into that squat, regular bodywork is an essential tool to help you reach your goals.
